MANU REWAL is a multi-award winning Indian-French film writer director producer.

He occasionally gives lectures on subjects related to his films in museums and at global cultural and academic institutions. He also sometimes works as a creative consultant for entrepreneurs.

His most recent fiction is a short film, Azad (Free). A proof of concept for a feature, a thriller about the rule of law and freedom.

His debut feature film, Chai Pani etc, (Love, bribes etc), a coming of age satire, overcame censorship in India, before it was released in the theatres and won the Special Jury Award at the International film festival in Brussels in 2007.

His first short fiction, Hollywood ki Pukar (the Call of Hollywood) a comedy, was premiered in the Director’s fortnight, global eyes, in Cannes 2002.

He has made 15 documentaries on architecture and cities in India. 7 were selected and 3 won awards in international film festivals, including at UNESCO Film Festival on art and education.

His most recent documentary Indian Modernity (2017) was co-produced with the Centre Pompidou, Paris. Harvard, MIT, Columbia, Stanford, Cornell, Yale etc. have acquired his films.

He has served on juries of film festivals in France, Belgium, Morocco, and Canada.

Of Indian and French origin, he was born and grew up in Delhi, India. Based in Delhi and Paris, fluent in English, French and Hindi, Manu has a unique cross-cultural perspective.
